From the A-Infos News Service 30/10/00 A BRIEF INFO ON PRISONERS SITUATION IN PRAGUE Czech authorities still uphold charges of a crime for 20 people in connection with the protests against the annual meeting of IMF/WB in Prague. Six Hungarians, three Danish, three Polish, two Spanish, an Austrian, a girl from USA and four Czechs are still charged. The police took cases of five people from this number (one Danish, two Polish, one Austrian and a girl from USA) to a state attorney with a proposal for an accusation. It means: if a state attorney accuses these people, their cases go to the court. The police stopped a prosecution of a man from Germany and a girl from Hungary, because the police had no evidence against them. In total six poeple (two Danish, two Polish, one Austrian and one Czech) are still in the custody. Yes, it means that all seven Hungarian comrades were released last week, especially thanks to a tremendous international campaign for their support! Thank you very much for this! We urge all anarchist and other concerned people internationally to continue this campaign of pressure against Czech authorities so that we can set free even the rest of prisoners! Their situation is still very hard. There is a big political pressure from capitalist media and all the establishment to victimise those comrades. For example the Prime Minister proclaimed them giulty even before any court was able to prove them any crime! The Prague branch of ORA-SOLIDARITA is working with the Legal Support Group (composed of INPEG and foreign activists, who are still staying in Prague) to provide a legal defence for S26 prisoners and as a whole ORA-SOLIDARITA co-operates with its Irish, French, Canadian, British and US anarchist-communist comrades in organising an international campaign of support for imprisoned anarchists. Updated and relevant information on jail situation in Prague should
be available on Prague Indymedia website:
Note: Polish ABC has received the information that Kamil Olejnik from Olsztyn, Poland, has been sentenced for 1 year prison for participating in the protests in Prague. Still no information about Jaroslaw Pilarski, the other person from Poland still being in jail in Pankrac. back to freepeople |
