The Vulgus Art Society was created by a group of people passionate about art, but less than enthusiastic about the art establishment. We believe that it is vital for the 21st century artist to create more artists rather than just more art. As a species we humans are incredibly imaginative, but the existing culture is such that it crushes our latent inventive urge until we become consumers rather than creators. We believe that this universal-self-denial leads to the alienation, neurosis and, most worryingly of all, the globalised ennui that so engulfs modern life. You can find out more about our philosophy by reading the Manifesto entitled Disappointing Walter Benjamin, visiting the Memetripping site or by checking out the following links...
We have been inspired by the formation of access.lowtech.org and would recommend that you check these guys out for a taste of how the art establishment should be organised.
Another major influence on the Vulgus Art Society was Alexander Trocchi's Project Sigma.
