Conflict throughout the continent of Europe appears to be spreading, and has included land battles as well as naval engagements. Further neutral countries have been annexed by their more powerful neighbours. German and French forces clashed in neutral Belgium, while the Italian army in Venice mounted an unsuccessful assault on Trieste. The Turkish Black Sea fleet bombarded Sevastopol, but failed to make headway in occupying the province.
