Last Monday Christian Aid launched a campaign, the aim of which is to
stop a massive humanitariancatastrophe.
It is vital to take action NOW to avert this disaster.
7.5 million people are in desperate need of food aid. The winter snows are set to arrive within the next few weeks. Once they do, it will be virtually impossible to deliver any aid to those in remote mountainous areas of Afghanistan. It is vital that essential aid reaches these people by mid-November, or many of them will starve. But since the bombing started, aid supplies have slowed to a trickle.

Email message to Tony Blair
I am deeply concerned that the slowing of aid supplies to Afghanistan
as a result of the US/UK military action may lead to millions of Afghan
civilians starving. The World Food Programme estimates that 7.5 million
Afghans will need food aid by November.
The people of Afghanistan need several months food - as well as non-food items such as medicine and blankets - if they are to survive their harsh winter. The United Nations estimates that 50,000 tonnes of food alone is needed per month plus an additional 70,000 tonnes for the remote areas in the next 5 weeks. According to aid agencies, the only effective way to deliver the necessary aid before the onset of winter - now only a few weeks away - is to take it in by road. However, aid convoys by land are now almost impossible to carry out.
According to all the major aid agencies, the current amounts of aid being airdropped by the US military are insignificant compared to the needs of millions of hungry people.I was pleased to hear you promise 'to act for humanitarian reasons to alleviate the appalling sufferingof the Afghan people'. How then do you plan to ensure that those Afghan people receive the provisions they need before the winter snows arrive, to prevent the starvation of millions of people.I would appreciate a prompt reply as each day that passes without aid supplies brings us closer to winter.
